Any student at City can apply to set up a new student group. Setting up a new student group equips you with employability skills including; leadership, team work, communication and events planning. Being a committee member prepares you for the world of work and enhances your CV.

 

All new student group applications will be reviewed by a Students’ Union Officer responsible and a member(s) of the Communities Team. New group applications can take up to 2 weeks to be reviewed.

New student group applications will either be approved or rejected with recommendations on how to improve it. 


Top tips

  • When filling out your application, please give as much detail as possible about your society aims and proposed activities. 
  • You must have a person for President, Finance Officer, and Communications Officer (or equivalent).
  • Consider what you plan to do for the year when coming up with your membership price
  • If your proposed society is similar to another one that already exists at City, please ensure that your application shows how you will be different and won't overlap.

What happens once my student group idea is approved?

  1. Committee members will be sent the revelavnt training and forms to be completed
  2. Once the completed your society will be set up with an email, website page, and bank account (each new society gets £50! to help begin)
  3. Attend your development meeting where you will discuss your plans for the year and how the SU can best help you
  4. You're ready to go!

New Society Application Form

This form is an application to establish a new City Students’ Union Society, and may only be completed and submitted by a current City, University of London student. Please fill out all the sections to aid us with your application. Failure to fully complete all sections may lead to your application being rejected. 

Committee members will then be required to attend training, create a constitution, and begin operating as a society. Please note the Students’ Union may not reimburse any expenses you create before this date relating to your proposed society.
