By now you are probably aware that there will be a General Election on Thursday 4 July 2024. The last few years in politics has been full of firsts and rare events and the General Election is the time to make your voice heard.
Why should you register to vote?
It's important you have your say, your vote really matters and student voices could shape the election outcome.
Well, this is your chance to set the agenda and ensure student voices are heard in the upcoming election. If you aren't registered you can't vote!

Great, how do I register?
To be eligible to vote you need to be:
- Aged 18 or over
- a British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen (a citizen is someone who has leave to enter or remain in the UK, or does not require such leave) or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland.
You can be registered to vote at both your home and term-time address. Just pick location that is most convenient for you on Election Day.

Deadline for registering to vote in the General Election
Register by 23:59 Tuesday 18 June to vote in the General Election on Thursday 4 July.
If you want to apply to vote by post, register before:
- 5pm on Wednesday 19 June if you live in England, Scotland or Wales
If you’re going to be abroad on election day, you can apply to vote by proxy after you’ve registered. It takes time to vote by post from overseas.
